Questions to ask near the end of your interview

An interview is a two-way conversation. You should always ask questions too!

Remember, they are interviewing YOU and YOU should be interviewing the potential employer too by asking questions during or after the interview. Asking intelligent questions will show the interviewer that you're really interested in the job and make informed decisions by gathering information. This leaves a good impression on a potential employer.

The questions were gathered from a combination of the following sources: Forbes, LinkedIn and Harvard Business Review

Appropriate Questions Your Interviewer About the Position

This s important to ask because it will help you understand the day-to-day responsibilities that they'll expect you to carry out.

The answer will give you an idea of how you'll be evaluated and what goals to meet.

The answer will give you a good idea of how the company supports new hires to set them up for success OR failure.

The answer will give insight about the tools you'll be expected to know how to use to perform your job duties. It's better to know ahead of time then to be caught off guard.

It's best to ask this near the end of the interview in a polite way. The answer that you're given will give you a good indicator about their company growth, turnover, and culture. Often, the answer will be a red flag for you OR a green light to help you decide if this is the type of company that you want to work for.

The answer will

  • Help you stand out from other jobseekers who did NOT ask the question
  • Show the interviewer that you're assertive and results-driven. Both of these traits are appealing to employers and show that you're goal-oriented and add value to a department.
  • Help to set you up for success by knowing ahead of time what you'll need to work towards accomplishing

The answer will

  • Help you understand their hiring timeline and when to expect to hear back
  • Reduce anxiety about waiting
  • Sets expectations so that you'll know if   you may have you go through several interviews, have to take a skills assessment, or be required to meet the team of people that you'd work with if you're hired

Questions to ask about the company culture

The answer will reveal a lot like the company's strengths and weaknesses

The answer will help you determine if the environment will fit your needs, personality, preferences, and values.

The answer will tell you what to expect. For example, some managers are very hands-on and have a direct communication style whereas others might be hands-off to not appear that they micromanage and indirect.
